Horse Racing Is Hair-raising
The Toowoomba Turf Club (TTC) joined the quest to improve men’s health in November, collecting donations around the club and donating a portion of entry fees to the Movember Foundation.
The club rounded out the monthly fundraising campaign on Saturday by donating $1 from every race goer through the gates to the foundation.
Club CEO Aaron Clancy said the TTC saw the need to help raise awareness of men’s health issues and recruited staff members to take part.
“We’re extremely proud to be supporting the Movember campaign. Prostate cancer and depression hit a lot of men in their lifetime, and it’s great that we could get some men and women at the club on board to help the cause,” Mr Clancy said.
The club’s first time effort this year ended up pooling $436 from the combination of fundraising activities, and Mr Clancy said he can see this figure burgeoning next year.
“This amount is about what we were hoping for. Even a modest contribution to the cause is worthwhile and we’ll be ramping it up next year for sure.”
The aim of Movember is to raise vital funds and build awareness about men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.
